Discover 5 tips for how to be a great teacher in today’s challenging teaching environment.
Using technology in the classroom.
Technology is constantly changing and it impacts every area of our lives. Teaching is no exception. The key is to view technology as a tool to be used to help facilitate learning in the classroom, not as a replacement for teachers. Advancements in technology bring many new opportunities and possibilities in education that didn’t exist not that long ago. In exploration of these possibilities, I decided to spend my Summer learning about Google tools in Education and I successfully became a Google Certified Educator Level 1.
Getting the right resources.
In today’s teaching environment, many teachers are not given the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Often without being given a set curriculum to use in the classroom, teachers have to go find the resources themselves. That is why I have made it my mission to create fun engaging resources for teachers to use in the classroom. I work hard to create high-quality resources because I believe great teachers need great resources.
Be adaptive and flexible.
As we continue to discover, as an education community, more about how students learn best, it becomes more obvious that every student is different. Students have different learning styles, backgrounds, experiences, and needs. The cookie cutter approach of treating all students the same, regardless of their individual needs, is quickly fading away. Concepts such as differentiated instruction and personalized learning are emerging as new strategies for the 21st century teacher.
Care about your students.
This element of being a great teacher is timeless. Although learning educational material is very important for students, it is also important for them to know that you care about them. It is not just about teaching content, but also guiding students to become men and women of strong character.
Self-care is important.
Also remember to take care of yourself as a teacher. Teaching can be very stressful and contains a lot of responsibilities. It is important to have time to relax and not think about school all the time. Being a great teacher is a marathon and not a sprint. In order to have long-term teaching success it is important not to overwork and get burned out. That is why my mission is to create standards based, engaging resources for teachers to use in their classrooms, so that I can help take some of the burden off their already full plate.
